Indian Government to introduce GPS- based toll collection system:
Government announced the replacement of highway toll plazas with new technology within six months. ‘It would help in exact measurement of distance traveled and also reduce traffic congestion’ said Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Punjab experiences a huge tornado:
On 24th March, a massive tornado surrounded the area of Fazilka district in Punjab. It caused damage to over 50 houses and injuries to around 10 people in Bakainwala village.
Rahul Gandhi loses his parliament membership:
The congress leader Rahul Gandhi, after his ‘remarks’ on Modi surname got into trouble. Since he was convicted in a defamation case, he has been now disqualified from the M.P. status in Lok Sabha.
Issue of Khalistan becomes intense:
Since a very long time, the issue of Khalistan has been going on. However, from a few days it has become more intense. Observing the threat, the government has imposed section 144 in the Union territory, Chandigarh. According to this, no more than 5 people in the city can gather in procession and rallies for at least two months. Moreover, violation of this law can be considered a punishable offense.
Furthermore, Khalistani supporter Amritpal Singh, along with other activists, were put into the central jail of Dibrugarh, Assam for being unlawful.
Padma Awards 2023:
On 22nd March, in the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the President of India Droupadi Murmu awarded 106 padma awards to persons from various fields for their excellence.
The Chaitra Navratri 2023:
Navratri means ‘nine nights’. Hindu people worship nine different forms of Goddess Durga and celebrate the victory of good over evil. This year it started from March 22.
States towards implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC)
On 14th February 2023, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the uniform Civil code in Uttarakhand. This step has made Uttarakhand the first state to implement UCC after Goa. Moreover, Gujarat, Assam and Karnataka too wish to bring UCC to their respective states.
A Woman escapes from North Korea:
A young lady, Yeonmi Park shared her experience of escaping from North Korea to China on Social Media. Also, through her speeches and writings, she revealed the oppressive nature of the North Korean government.

P.M. launches International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA):
On 9th April, the Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi visited Bandipur Tiger Reserve- Karnataka to launch International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA). The emphasis is on the conservation of mainly seven species of big cats; Lion, tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Puma, Jaguar and Cheetah.
In 1973, the government of India began ‘The Project Tiger’ with the aim of reducing the declining population of tigers in the country. At that time, the population of tigers reached below thousand. Now, after 50 years of the project, the population of tigers is 3,167 (according to the latest data).
Election Commission of India announces the 9th National Party:
On 10th April, Election Commission (EC) declared Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) a recognized national party of India. Earlier, by winning seats in Delhi and Punjab, AAP already became a recognized state party. And now the performance in the elections of Goa, has made the party eligible for becoming the recognized National Party. Thus, AAP is now the 9th National Party of India. However, EC canceled the status of India Trinamool Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and the Communist Party Of India.

On 5th May, 2023, the new movie ‘The Kerala Story’ was released. The film is based on the true story of three girls who converted their religion and ended up in the prison of a Islamic country. According to the sources, many people and parties demanded a ban on the screening of the movie ‘The Kerala Story’. However, the Supreme court declared the film safe from a constitutional perspective.
June 2023:
Adipurush: The Modern Ramayan of Kalyug
The film ‘Adipurush’ released on 16 June 2023. It is among the most expensive film in India directed by Om Raut. It is based on the Hindu Epic Ramayan. On the very first day of screening, the film makers faced criticism for using poor Visual effects and religiously objectionable dialogues in the movie. Although, the film’s first day collection reached 86.75 crore, but dropped several times in the following weeks.

Kargil Vijay Diwas 2023
Every year Indian soldiers are remembered and honored for sacrificing their lives during Kargil war that ended on 26 July 1999. It was the day when Indian army waved a flag of victory. Thus, the entire nation observe this day as ‘the Kargil Triumph Day’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to all the heroes of Kargil war for their bravery. In many places, the people celebrated this day as the success of ‘Operation Vijay’.

The Delhi Ordinance Bill
The Delhi Ordinance Bill was introduced on 07 August 2023 (by the Union Home Minister of Rajya Sabha) as a swift solution to address critical issues in the city. This bill enables the government to put in place temporary rules urgently, which can later become permanent laws. It’s like a quick fix for pressing problems. Sometimes, situations demand immediate action, and the usual law-making process takes time. This bill steps in to bridge that gap and deal with urgent matters effectively. The Delhi Ordinance Bill can cover various topics, such as improving services, making new rules, or changing old ones. The main goal is to enhance the lives of Delhi’s residents. While the Delhi Ordinance Bill received support from 131 M.P.s, it faced opposition from 102 opposition members. The debate centered around the need for urgency versus traditional law-making procedures.
The Election Commission Appointment Bill
Exciting changes are afoot in a way we appoint Chief Election Commissioners (CEC) and Election Commissioners (ECs). Back in 2015, a PIL questioned the way these appointments were being made. This set off a chain reaction of discussions, debates, and reevaluations. The Supreme Court weighed in with a groundbreaking ruling in March 2023. The verdict? The President of India will now handle CEC and ECs appointments. And that’s not all. A special Committee was put together to guide the President in these appointments. The committee includes the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, and the Chief Justice of India. The PIL’s impact didn’t stop at the Supreme Court. Parliament got into the act. On 10 August 2023, they passed a bill that laid out a whole new way of doing things. The heart of the bill is the Selection Committee. This power-packed group is headed by the Prime Minister The team also includes the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and a chosen Union Cabinet Minister.
